Can A Baby Be Too Gassy?

It seems like every time I feed my baby he gets incredible gas.I notice him spitting up little bubbles, and then he wiggles and cries until he passes the gas.  It seems like it is getting worse and now he seems to be avoiding my breast.I’m anxious that he has associated feeding with the gassy build up. I’m worried about colic warning signs and I’ve tried some of the colic remedies, but he still has gas.

Since I’m sure the gas hurts, he probably doesn’t want to eat because he knows it is going to cause him anguish.  Maybe I should switch to formula, everyone has told me to breastfeed, but if it is causing him pain.Maybe formula won’t cause him so much gas.

The first thing you should know is that almost everyone agrees that breastfeeding is the best thing for your baby.  Colic is not often caused by breastfeeding, but it is not unheard of. Gas is one of the many colic signs, and left untreated the situation could worsen to colic. But most of the time, it’s not the actual breast milk that is the problem.  It could be a very simple solution, the problem could be related to poor technique.
Breastfeeding is not always as natural as one might think. In fact there is a whole association devoted to teaching mothers how to breastfeed. See La Leche League USA. One of the more frequent problems is a poor latch. latch is defined as how your baby takes the breast. Switching breast too early is often another common mistake that can lead to excess gas, because the baby does not get to the hind milk. Hind milk is what the baby gets when the breast is almost clear; most of the calories, fats, and complex carbohydrates are in this milk.Fore milk  is what the baby gets when the breast is full.  This milk is mostly lactase, or milk sugar; too much of this milk has been proven to cause gas.

The actual breastmillk might be the problem if you’re eating too many gas producing foods.  The foods that cause gas include:
Broccoli

Onions

Spicy foods

Cow’s milk

Cow’s milk can be the biggest offender when it comes to colic or gas. This is because it has the wrong mix of proteins for humans, making it too hard for some infants to digest.  Most of the time this is an issue only for babies on cow’s milk formula.  But your baby could just be very responsive to cow’s milk products.  You’ve checked your diet for gas producers, but you baby is still having problems, the next step — get rid of all dairy. You may only need to do this for a short time until your baby matures and can tolerate dairy better.

Glow Sticks: Can They Be Dangerous?

Glow sticks are great items to bring to a parade or party of any kind. They can be found online, in stores, or at flea markets, where the vendors are often hoping to sell them in bulk. Glow sticks are certainly a welcome addition to any party or celebration, and children of all ages enjoy playing with them. However, many people are concerned that a glow light can be dangerous. Specifically, they worry that small children might get injured while playing with glow sticks.

Fortunately, this subject has been studied and researched in depth. Most people worry about what would happen if the glow product became cracked and punctured; they believe that if the inner fluid of the product spilled onto the clothes and body of the handler, then the fluid would harm his or her skin in some way. If for any reason the fluid spills onto your skin, you should immediately wash off the liquid with warm soapy water and then let it dry. The biggest problem you’re likely to encounter is having a stain on your clothes! However, some people might experience skin irritation or swelling. A glow light and the chemicals it contains are not fatal or very dangerous. In fact, it is believed that many household cleaners are more dangerous than any glow products.

Although they are generally considered to be safe, glow sticks can still be a somewhat controversial subject. There have been many articles discouraging the use of glow sticks and other novelties. For example, glow sticks are not considered to be environmentally friendly, to say the least. Since they are only meant to be used one time, some consider them to be wasteful products. As opposed to products that you can reuse over and over again, glow lights are single-use products and once the light fades, they cannot be used again. Furthermore, the internal fluid can be damaging to the environment if it is spilled.

Some people are also concerned that small children could choke on glow products. If the glow product is small enough, a child could indeed choke on it, just as he or she could choke on any small object. For this reason, you should keep your glow sticks away from very young children. If you do choose to let your children play with glow sticks, make sure to watch them very closely. Another thing to keep in mind is that some people’s eyes are very sensitive to light, so particularly bright lights can sometimes hurt their eyes. Just like you should never stare directly at the sun, you should never shine a glow light directly in someone’s eyes. As long as you keep these precautions in mind, you can enjoy your glow light without having to worry about it being dangerous.
