One way that restaurant videos can successfully bring customers to their restaurant is through the use of a restaurant video which portrays the restaurant in a way that presents an inviting atmosphere. There may be as many ways to do this as there are restaurants. The Aloha Grill restaurant video is one example of how this can be effectively accomplished. As the video opens, we are treated to the relaxing sound of ethnic classical guitar music. A shot of the restaurant name and logo flashes on the screen followed by a view of the front facade. Then we are immediately taken inside where we see a guitarist, clad in a loose short sleeve shirt playing for the patrons. The restaurant, a wooden structure found in an obviously tropical locale features broad picture windows set in thick driftwood colored frames. As the camera sweeps from the musician to the windows we first see a surfboard leaning against the wall, and then a dramatic view of the Pacific ocean, with a surfer doing a flip on the crest of a wave.
In the subsequent shot, the camera closes in on the smiling face of the Hawaiian hostess, standing behind the reception desk. The shot imitates what a patron sees as he enters the grill. Soon thereafter we are taken to the kitchen area, where two sumptuous strip steaks are cooking to perfection on an open grill. This is followed by a close-up of a fish dish, being garnished with purple Island flowers. Immediately afterward, a Hawaiian waitress sporting a pleasant smile presents the food to a couple sitting in the main dining area.
Behind her, we note the walls of the restaurant are colored a lush tropical green, with Island plants in pots dispersed all about. The camera then jumps to a view of the front patio, a fenced in areas where patrons can eat outside by the light of a large outdoor torch. The porch borders the highway the restaurant sits along. The video ends with a final view of a colorful flower garden. As it closes the music is broken by the one narration of the whole video, “Come check us out at the Aloha Island Grill.”
We determine from the presentation that the Aloha Island Grill is a relatively small Hawaiian style grill which sits on the Ocean highway in Santa Cruz, with its rear facing the ocean. The video does an effective job of presenting the atmosphere of the restaurant in the most effective possibly way. The video substitutes a classical guitar player for a Hawaiian singer. It presents the dramatic view of the ocean, seen through the large picture windows. It exhibits the large tropical Hawaiian plants in large pots, and the lush green wooden interior of the restaurant, probably very similar to buildings seen on Hawaii. It features a Hawaiian looking waitress and cashier, and the Hawaiian custom of garnishing dishes with pretty island flowers. It presents the Hawaiian custom of dining outdoors to the light of a large torch.
The video is successful because it has created an inviting atmosphere for viewers.. The presentation of the atmosphere is consistently done form start to finish, and is a true representation of the nature of the restaurant,. and therefore believable. It allows viewers to decide if they like this atmosphere and want to visit the grill.
